Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA, Michael Lobo has strongly criticised the Goa Police for not paying much heed to the law and order in the state and focusing only on challaning two-wheeler riders riding without helmets. “The Goa Police is moving in the wrong direction and I ask them to carry out correction on the same. Don’t be extra enthusiastic to only challan people who are not wearing helmets. There are other crimes also happening in Goa. The duty of the police is to protect and safeguard the citizens and others coming to Goa. Leaving aside this you’ll have diverted to challan people,” stated Lobo after inaugurating an electricity transformer at Madavaddo in Calangute. Over the last one week it has been noticed that the police from most of the police station have been brought on the roads to challan traffic violators. “It is very good that the police are challaning the traffic violators and not traffic sentinels. Don’t be so over enthusiastic that you pick up and post all your police on the roads. All Goans are aware that they should wear a helmet. There are so many crimes taking place. In Parra two miscreants roaming on the bike are snatching mangalsutras and this is the third robbery already,” pointed out Lobo. “Where traffic jams occur there is no regulation of traffic being carried out but you’ll are only interested in helmets. The police station and PI is being pressurized to book certain number of cases on a given day and for this they depute all their police force,” he added.
Calangute MLA stated that police stations are wearing a deserted look with barely two constables present and work is not getting done at the police station. “If you go to make a complaint there is no one available to register the case. This is happening all across the state”, he added. He said that from a PI to DySP all are being brought on the road. “Since CM is out of station and without his directions the Goa Police is doing what they want which I think is wrong. CM is not aware that the police stations are empty and hardly two constables are there,” Lobo said.
