An entertainment zone planned at the Salt Lake football ground in Arpora will be the first-of-its-kind recreational facility in the beach belt, with the field owners as partners, without their land being acquired, said Calangute MLA Michael Lobo. Lobo, while addressing a press conference, told the media that this entertainment zone has been marked in the ODP and will be first-of-its-kind in the beach belt. The place identified is the Saturday Night Market, which is being organised by Salim, panch member of Arpora. He said, “There are 40 field owners. This is a new concept of taking the land owners as partners by paying them Rs 2 lakh per year as rent for the field by signing an agreement. The field is not acquired. Once the agreement is terminated the field remains with the owner.” The entertainment zone will have an open auditorium having a stage, dance floor, lighting, sound and large parking area. Lobo said that “it will be a well planned entertainment zone. The total area will be around 1 lakh square metre, on which the Saturday night market will be organised. On other days, people can use it for other entertainment.
The agreement is under the village panchayat and the committee and the NGPDA.” He further said that “such entertainment zones need to come up in Morjim, Anjuna, and Vagator. The football ground will be a stadium and even have a cricket pitch.” He said that he is laying stress on building sports infrastructure in his constituency under CSR activities wherein Rs 3.5 crore will be spent on developing three football grounds of international standard. “The football ground at Candolim is almost complete. The work on Parra ground is 50 per cent completed while the work on Arpora-Nagoa ground is still not taken up, for which the parish priest and in-charge of St Joseph High School along with the Arpora panchayat will be taken into confidence,” he added. At Parra, a land has been identified to construct a world-class swimming pool, he said.
