Give more powers to end garbage woes in Goa

Deputy Speaker of the Goa legislative assembly and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to give him more powers as a director of the Goa Waste Management Corporation so as to end garbage woes in the state. Lobo, who was relieved of officiating Speaker’s post, tried to impressed upon Sawant saying that he is ready to pitch in to obliterate the garbage menace. The corporation is currently headed by the Chief Minister. Lobo said that if he is given more powers as a director of the corporation then he can take into confidence all the MLAs and set up garbage treatment plants at Bainguinim in Tiswadi and at Cacora in South Goa. “I have shown how garbage can be treated in scientific manner through the Saligao solid waste treatment plant. Similarly, we can handle garbage generated in other parts of the state by setting up two more plants,” he said. It is the need of the hour to have plants at Baiguinim and Cacora. Lobo said that he spoke to Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai, who has assured him all the cooperation in clearing the garbage from the Sonsoddo dump. On proposal for Baiguinim plant, Calangute MLA said that he will take into confidence Panaji MLA Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate, city corporators and people if he is invested with powers by the Chief Minister
