Minister for Waste Management Michael Lobo said that following a green signal from chief minister, in next six months, foundation stone will be laid for construction of an administrative building (Bardez Bhavan) in Mapusa that will house all government offices in the town under one roof. He said that former revenue minister had proposed to have the Bardez Bhavan in Porvorim, however, “we had objected to it as all people from Bardez come to Mapusa as taluka-level offices are located here.” Interacting with media on the sidelines of a function in Mapusa, he further said that “we will have the chief minister visit the present government complex in the town and take stock of difficulties of citizens visiting the complex.” “This building was designed 40 years ago and over the years the flow of people visiting the complex has increased and, hence, there is a need to have a government building with all offices under one roof,” he said. “It can also house the electricity department office, besides having a double basement underground for parking provision for 400-500 cars. The complex will be a boon for the citizens,” he added. Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, who was also present, said that “we are moving a proposal before the government to have an administrative building at the same building site that will accommodate all the government offices under one roof. The land that is there admeasures around 4000 square metres.” “If we are able to have a large administrative complex, it will be a boon not only to the people of Mapusa but all of Bardez. We can have parking facility for entire area. Nominal parking fee can be charged and this revenue can be used for maintenance.
