Time to transform Goa into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy


Seeking advice from various consultants, Minister for Science and Technology Michael Lobo said that Goa is not making way ahead in the technology sector and he will soon seek the help of experts to take the State ahead on the technology front. Lobo released a book ‘Why digital Transformations fail’ written by Tony Saldanha, ex-vice president of Procter and Gamble. Lobo said that Prime Minister Modi has a vision to transform the nation in Digital India and Goa also wants to go ahead in this direction. But consultants appointed just advice and go but nothing happens. We need help from technical experts like Tony Saldhana for the digital transformation to really happen, Lobo said. Vice Chancellor of Goa University Varun Sahani who was present at the book release function said that technological advancement is needed in every field including education, adding a cautionary note that technological advancement should be done by preserving culture and environment to keep the identity of the society. Goa Shipyard chairman BB Nagpal explained how the ideas in the book of Saldanha helped him to do technological improvements in Goa Shipyard Limited. Saldhana said that in Goa, fields like science and technology, waste management, environment, shipbuilding, education, agriculture, news, mining, tourism needs a digital plan for the future.
